Omlouvám se vám, pane, za tu křivdu. Odpusťte mi to. Buďte šlechetný. Ti všichni tady vědí, včetně vás, že bohužel jsem přišel o rozum. To, co jsem provedl a čím jsem vyvolal váš hněv a žal, lze přičíst pouze ménu poblouzenění. Ublížil Hamlet Laertovi? Ne! Když Hamlet neručí sám za sebe, pak Hamlet který ublížil vám, není Hamlet. Hamlet to neudělal! Kdo je tedy vinen? Jeho šílenství. Je-li to tak, je Hamlet taky oběť. Podlehl vlastní pomatenosti. Pane, zde přede všemi prohlašuji, že můj čin nevedl zlý úmysl. Prosím vás, buďte velkorysý. Věřtě, že šípem vystřeleným naslepo jsem zasáh bratra.
